This 4-hour training module comes with either 1-4hr DVD or 4 one-hour streaming videos, 1 pdf manual and links to our post-test. This course is designed to serve as a fast-paced, introduction to aquatic therapy fundamentals. Strongly recommended to all aquatic therapy and fitness facilities as the perfect overview of aquatic therapy and exercise.

Works well to show in four 1-hour increments as lunch-n-learns. Get the whole team on the same page and get CE hours on the cheap!  Includes up to 10 post-tests and certificates (order more for just $20 each).


On-Demand Course
4 hour videotaped course streamed on-demand. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about viewing the course. You may watch the course as many times as you wish with no expiration.

Perfect for lunch-time continuing education for the whole team. Facilities may pay a single fee ($400) to provide a group inservice for the entire team; up to 10 Post-Tests and 10 Certificates of Attendance will be issued. For each additional Post-Test and Certificate, a $20 charge will apply.


Powerpoint notes and and a printable manual will be made available for download with the purchase. Registrants will get a link to download handouts by email.


Certificates of Completion/ Post-Test
Paid registrants will receive a link to take a post-test. Registrants who score 80% on this post-test will receive a Certificate of Completion for 4 hours of content from Aquatic Therapy University. Up to 10 Post-Tests and 10 Certificates of Attendance will be issued per purchase of the Facility package. For additional Post-Tests and Certificates, a $20 fee will apply.

Preapproval of CEUs
We have decided to go the extra mile and obtain preapproval of our on-demand courses through the Federation of State Boards of PT. This course is being reviewed by FSBPT for 4 CCU (4 credits). Continuing education certified by FSBPT is currently accepted by the following states:

Who Should Attend?
This course is appropriate for rehab professionals with a baseline level of knowledge about the properties of water (at least 500 hours working in an aquatic setting). The target audience is physical therapists and physical therapist assistants although other rehab professionals will benefit.


This 4-hour course will bring you up to speed with the fundamentals of aquatic therapy and exercise.


Learning Objectives

1. Describe at least 2 specialized aquatic handling techniques necessary under any 1 of the following therapeutic scenarios: non-weight-bearing, hydrophobic, asymmetric center of buoyancy, fragile skin, hypersensitivity to touch, non-verbal communication, poor head and trunk righting skills, or aspiration risk.


2. Describe how to alter movement difficulty by manipulating at least 2 of the following: buoyancy, velocity, streamlining, levers, frontal surface area, and momentum.


3. Describe 3 ways that hydrodynamic properties of water would alter at least 1 traditional therapeutic exercise if that exercise was performed in the pool.


4. List at least 3 precautions specific to aquatic therapy.


6.Verbally identify where to obtain research supporting at least 3 aquatic specialty techniques (such as Watsu®) as discussed during the course.



Andrea Salzman, MS, PT graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Masters degree in physical therapy. Salzman is the Founder and Owner of the Aquatic Resources Network, the largest multidisciplinary clearinghouse of information on aquatic therapy. She is Vice President of 10K Health, LLC, a temporary staffing agency. She currently serves as Program Director for Aquatic Therapy University and has assisted hundreds of facilities during the start-up and training phases of their aquatic practice.
